Degenerative Joint Disease

Jupiter and West Palm Beach Offices serving all of Florida

Degenerative Joint Disease (DJD) is an inflammation of the joints and surrounding tissues known as osteoarthritis or degenerative arthritis. The cause of DJD is attributed overuse of joints, aging or wear and tear.

Almost 60% of individuals diagnosed with DJD have a genetic predisposition to the disease. DJD most commonly affects the hands, feet, spine and weight-bearing joints, such as hips and knees. Symptoms include pain, decreased joint motion and stiffness.

Treatment may include anti-inflammatory medications, palliative pain relief medications and orthopedic devices such as braces and walkers.
